Shanghai Alumni Event: The Psychology of Entrepreneurship

You’re invited to a special networking event in August with guest speaker Daniel Shi, Founder of 23Seed and Producer of The Next Unicorn – the first reality TV show about global start-ups and innovation. This event offers the opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow China-based graduates as well as our University’s current MBA students.

The discussion topic is The Psychology of Entrepreneurship and the conversation will be hosted by Professor John Shields, Deputy Dean of the University of Sydney Business School. John and Daniel will unpack the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and examine the nature vs. nurture argument. Be prepared to be surprised! You’ll learn more about Daniel’s background and gain an exclusive look into the production of the Next Unicorn. There will also be plenty of time for audience Q&A!

    Daniel Shi

    Daniel Shi, 施旦霁, was born and raised in China Zhejiang Province. He moved to Australia at the age of 16 where he graduated with a Bachelor of IT, RMIT (2004) and Master of IT, The University of Sydney (2005) with a major in Database.

    Daniel worked as a Data Analyst in ACNielsen, then worked as Business Intelligence consultant for MBF, Macquarie Bank, BT Finance, Optus in Australia. Daniel returned to China in 2007 to start his own startup in SAAS, then sold this company in 2008 and later joined ISPACE, Shanghai as a manager for the incubator.

    In 2013, Daniel resigned from ISPACE to started his own incubator & early stage investment business branded as 23Seed. 23Seed online system developed to assist startup information aggregation and analysis for early stage investment. In 2014, Daniel invested in 24Tidy as its angel investor, later that year, 24tidy received investment from Sequoia and now it is one of the largest O2O company in China for services oriented business.

    In 2016, Daniel led 23Seed and CBN TV station produced TV reality show called “The Next Unicorn”, that select the best startups from 7 global cities and compete in Shanghai for a price of 10M RMB. Recently, 23Seed was ranked the top 50 early stage investment firm of 2016 in China by ChinaVenture, and has offices in Shanghai, Sydney and Silicon Valley, and looking at tech startups from all over the world.
