A message from the Vice-Chancellor

February 15, 2020
Dear students,

As you will know, The Australian Government announced Thursday a one-week extension of the travel restrictions for non-Australian citizens and residents entering Australia from mainland China. I know that this news will be disappointing to you. I want to reassure you that the University remains committed to supporting you in your studies through this uncertain time.

We are working to provide you with further options to enrol in Units of Study that will provide online supported learning for the first five weeks of Semester in some programs, and the whole of Semester in others. These options will allow you to join classes in person on campus when you are able to travel.

Units of study that are able to offer online supported learning will be listed over the coming days on our website so you can confirm your study and enrolment plans. You will still be able to defer or withdraw without penalty until March 30. We will provide a definitive list of your options on Tuesday next week.

Please remember that our student hotline is available to you from 9am- 6pm Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (AEST)

1800 SYD UNI (1800 793 864) if you are calling from within Australia

Commencing/new students can also email international.admissions@sydney.edu.au.

You can also access support from the Australian Government as follows:

A dedicated email international.students@dese.gov.au and hotline – 1300 981 621 (8am to 8pm AEDST Monday to Friday) – has been established to assist international students with questions or concerns relating to study and novel coronavirus. Further information is available online at www.dese.gov.au.

I would like to thank you again for the patience you and your families have shown during this challenging time. You are an important part of our University community, and we very much look forward to having you join us on campus as soon as possible. In the meantime, stay strong, and I will update you early next week.

Yours,

Michael
