Preparing your journey to The University of Sydney

December 17, 2017

Choosing to be an international student is one of the most important decisions of your life, each year the University of Sydney welcomes 1,000s of international students from across 200 countries to their Sydney Campus. The University of Sydney community is an exciting, vibrant and a diverse mix of students, researchers and academics and we want to make sure that you feel part of this community from the moment you arrive in Sydney.  We want to make your experience at your new university most rewarding, challenging your thinking, helping you grow and develop, and prepare you for the right job at the end of your study.

The University of Sydney has a long connection with China and Chinese students on campus. Acknowledging this long relationship, the University of Sydney established its Centre in China in 2016, based in the Suzhou Industrial Park in Jiangsu Province.  A core function of the Centre is to help newly enrolled students connect with the University of Sydney before they get on the plane.   And to support alumni once they have returned from Sydney.

As a newly enrolled student, the University of Sydney warmly invites you and your parents to a half-day program of what you will experience when you first arrive in Australia and what to expect at the University of Sydney.  Information Sessions will be held in Suzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou in January 2018.

The information sessions will guide you through all the things you will need to know in the first month in Sydney.  We will cover the practical details like arriving at Sydney Airport, finding accommodation, making friends, community and social connections.

We will cover how to select subjects, due dates, study evaluations, teaching styles, the focus on independent learning, self-discipline and referencing resources used in your work.

The University of Sydney welcome you and your parents to join the evening networking function. Returnee alumni will be there so you and your parents will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn first-hand from others’ experiences.
