Affected students
The Australian Government has suspended travel from all of mainland China to Australia. This means that you will not be allowed to enter Australia for 14 days from the time that you have left or transited through mainland China.
This travel suspension applies to everyone except Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate families members (spouses, legal guardians or dependants only) until further notice.
The University is committed to doing all we can to help you continue your studies, and will be providing you with updates as they become available.
Course-specific information
We have made special study arrangements to some courses for students who are unable to be on campus. For all other students, classes will go ahead as usual. Further detail on the delivery of these programs will be provided in the coming days.
These online and remote arrangements are available for students who are unable to attend classes; scheduled classes will go ahead for students who are not impacted. All students who are on campus are expected to attend classes as usual.
If your course is not one of those listed above, we are working on solutions for you to access remote and flexible learning arrangements to enable you to begin Semester 1 classes remotely before joining your class on campus by Monday 30 March.
Arrangements will vary from course to course and may depend on whether you are a new student or continuing student. We will continue to update this list as arrangements are confirmed.

Bachelor of Design in Architecture; Bachelor of Architecture/Masters of Architecture; Bachelor of Architecture and Environments
Commencing and continuing students
- Remote and flexible learning arrangements to enable you to begin Semester 1 classes will be available in core units for the first five weeks. There are also three units offered as electives that are delivered online.
- If you cannot attend classes in person by Monday March 30, core units will be offered as summer and winter intensives so as to not impact progression.
Bachelor of Design Computing; Bachelor of Design Computing (Advanced Studies)
Years 1 & 2
- Remote and flexible learning arrangements to enable you to begin Semester 1 classes will be available in core units for the first five weeks. There are also three units offered as electives that are delivered online.
- If you cannot attend classes in person by Monday March 30, you will need to defer your studies until Semester 2. However, it may be possible with a combination of normal studies and summer and winter school to still complete at the time you initially expected.
Final year students – Bachelor of Design Computing Year 3; Bachelor of Design Computing (Advanced Studies) Year 4
- Remote and flexible learning arrangements to enable you to begin Semester 1 classes will be available in core units for the first five weeks. There are also three units offered as electives that are delivered online.
- If you cannot attend classes in person by Monday March 30, the School will be offering intensive units for you to catch up in June/July, 2020 (this would work as 2 units of study in each period) as well as online units to meet your elective requirements. That means you will be able to continue your enrolment as normal and graduate at the end of 2020.
Postgraduate programs: Architectural Science; Design; Heritage; Interaction Design and Electronic Arts; Master of Architecture; Urban and Regional Planning; Urban Design; Urbanism
- Remote and flexible learning arrangements to enable you to begin Semester 1 classes will be available in core units for the first five weeks. There are also three units offered as electives that are delivered online.
- If you cannot attend classes in person by Monday March 30, you will need to defer your studies until Semester 2. However, it may be possible with a combination of normal studies and summer and winter school to still complete at the time you initially expected.

- Start of semester delayed for two weeks. Week 1 will be 9th March.

Juris Doctor (commencing students)
- Three units will be offered remotely with online support and resources: LAWS5000 Foundations of Law, LAWS5001 Torts and LAWS5003 Civil and Criminal Procedure. Remote classes will start from 24 February 2020.
- Additionally, LAWS5002 Contracts will be taught on campus as an intensive unit in June.
Juris Doctor (continuing students)
- Students returning to year 2 or 3 of the JD program will be able to access online teaching during the first 5 weeks of the program (up to 27th March). JD2 students unable to join the program in person from 30th March will be required to defer enrolment until S2. These students will be offered the Intro to Property and Commercial Law unit (LAWS5008) as a winter school intensive so as not to impact progression.

On 30th June, nine entrepreneurial teams from world-class universities, such as the University of Sydney, Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, Shanghai Tongji University, and Xi'an Jiaotong University, joined the 2021 Suzhou 'Shuang Chuang' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition · the University of Sydney Centre in China Special Match with their innovative and diversified entrepreneurial projects.
